Heart of Shadows underated?
I was looking for a good secondary self heal for my sin other than Shadow Refuge and found Heart of Shadows and its is downright amazing. It teleports you alittile away from the battle (not too far away though) and when u get damaged (which you will 99% will) it heals you for a massive amount. My question is why do I not see many sins with this? it cheap and effective. I have seen no builds yet with Heart of Shadows (except maybe mine) and I just would like to know why?

1. Heals before you take damage.
2. Recharge is fairly long.

yea but it heals for just a massive amount and counts as a 60 sec enchantment spell too, also yes the recharge time is alittile long which is why I also have Shadow Refuge.

[skill]Heart of Shadow[/skill] didn't quite work out for me. The random placement doesn't appear too far away so any locked enemies are back on you in a heartbeat, and the 100-ish HP you gain won't save you from a sustained assault. The Enchantment part ends as soon as you are healed.
[skill]Death's Retreat[/skill] or [skill]Return[/skill] might be better tools for escape.

I use it to get out when I don't trust any players (even casters) to get out. The heal is just to reduce the next dmg to me. If I'm with my heroes and henchmen, I use [skill]Swap[/skill] and Olias as MM or a Ritualist Spirit Spammer.
Cool skills, but less used, 15 seconds is short if we compare the other with the recharge.

I go /D and use mystic regen+vital boon, i also barely need healing because i've got Critical Agility on always. I'd never use heart of shadow for a self heal, when im not going /D I always use this:
Way of Perfection [edit] Enchantment Spell. For 60 seconds, whenever you successfully make a critical hit, you gain 10...34 Health.
Combined with critical eye/way of the sin, it'll heal you very well.
Previously suggested was deaths retreat:
Spell. Shadow Step to target ally. If you have less Health than that ally, you gain 40...112 Health.
Also a nice heal skill, Heart of Shadow's recharge is simply too long and the mini-teleport isn't very convenient so don't use it, hope my advice helped .

I prefer death's retreat in a build where i want a spike heal. in most of PvE some sort of constant healing like WoP or mystic regen is more useful.

I thought monk healing was most useful.

you cant depend on your monk to heal every scrap of damage you take. in a decent team a monk should be able to run full prot with the only healing being gift.

It only works for mid-battle, since it heals you before you take damage.
So that Bladed Aatxe swings at you, you get your precious 126 health... but the battle just started, and your health was already full. Then you get crushed for that ~200 health hit.
Then you're desperately waiting for it to recharge again so you can teleport yourself randomly somewhere in the area - hopefully you won't become an aggro bridge and get the casters killed. Hopefully you won't accidentally aggro another group with your random teleport.
Nah... I'm good on that, thanks. I wouldn't call it underrated.

If you're running 2 monks, then ZB+Gift has no problem keeping bars up.
Look in the warrior forums.
No one's been using self heals in pve for a looong time.

Indeed. Self heals are quite unfamous nowadays, as (finally) the concept that the monk is the healer has reached the most of the players lol. I think assassins should just be spiking(pvp) or aoe damagin (pve). I mean, a splinter/death bloom sin works even better than a nuker xD

I don't monk with players with a self heal. If you don't trust me as a monk, then I won't heal you.

lol ya in addition to making a sub-par attribute spread, self-heals mess up ZB's energy return sometimes

So one skill slot on their bar makes the difference between you being "their bitch" or not.
Seriously?
That's retarded.

Well it depends on what your experiences are, I guess. I mostly AB - and I'm a PUG masochist at that - so I can never trust anyone but myself to tend to my wounds. That's why I'd never consider taking part without a self-heal, even if this means sacrificing some damage potential (currently very happy with Restful Breeze at 3 or 5 Heal, not too bad)
Were it a dedicated group, my opinion would be different. If someone else is specifically charged with keeping me (among others) alive, I'd have no problem going for an all-out skill bar.
I have respect for all healing monks in AB, no matter how bad they are. They aim to keep others alive, which is, in my opinion, incredibly boring. Not only that, they get badmouthed by any stupid sod within range who happens to stupidly die. Looking at several skill bars, I see these players being very concerned about their own survival, with very good reason - noone will protect them as they would in a decent team!
Stupidity & mistrust FTL!

I quite like it, i think its stupid to enter RA without a self heal but in "real" pvp self heals arnt needed unless your ganking in which case a random teleport will just risk a messed up aggro
